Have you ever wondered why nail polishes smell the way they do?

Conventional nail polish is a coloured polymer dissolved in a solvent. During the drying process, the solvent evaporates and the polymer hardens. Unfortunately, many nail products contain potentially harmful ingredients, such as formaldehyde, toluene, dibutyl phthalate, formaldehyde resin and camphor, which are potential carcinogens, allergens and pollutants.

OPI Nature Strong Nail Lacquer, $14.60 each

Fortunately, there are healthier and more earth-friendly alternatives. OPI’s Nature Strong is a collection of natural origin, vegan nail lacquers that does not compromise performance.

Start your manicure with the new skincare-inspired, multi-benefit Botanical Base Coat. It helps nails look healthy and smooth, while also acting as a colour primer featuring skincare ingredients like alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), polyhydroxy acids (PHAs), vitamin E and squalene.

Next, choose from 38 colours, all inspired by nature. The formula is made up of non-GMO plant and mineral-based ingredients, like sugar cane, wheat, corn and clay. The palette ranges from very bright, like the electric pink “A Kick in the Bud” and the marigold “Bee the Change”, to more subtle ones, like dirty mauve “Kind of a Twig Deal” and frosty
white “Glowing Places”.

You may be surprised, but there are glittery polishes in this collection too. They feature vegan glitter technology without the use of plastics. The tiny sparkles are made from cellulose that is sustainably farmed from eucalyptus trees and suspended in a bio-sourced base.

Finally, seal with Nature Strong Top Coat for a top-to-bottom vegan and natural-origin manicure that can last up to seven days.
