From Your Jacket To The Moon

On February 15, Columbia Sportwear watched as their Omni-Heat Infinity technology played a role in a historic moment for U.S. lunar travel as it insulates Intuitive Machine’s Nova-C lander against the extreme temperatures of space.

Columbia has experimented with space blanket technology since they debuted Omni-Heat in 2010, and now in its third iteration, Omni-Heat Infinity is bringing the evolution of the technology full circle. For Columbia, it is an unparalleled opportunity for exploration and discovery, paving the way for advancements in technologies and materials innovations that will enhance their products and ultimately the lives of customers.

The learnings from this scientific partnership have already resulted in new products. Featured in more than 100 Columbia products, the heat-reflective materials used to keep people warm is built from the same basic components as the multi-layer insulation (MLI) blankets used to protect parts of the spacecraft. As most of the country is being impacted by extreme weather this winter, thoughtfully crafted products that can withstand the cold are essential.
