Dyson CameraJet™: The Toothbrush That Can See

Brushing, flossing and rinsing may be the basics of a good oral-care routine, but the spaces between teeth are easy to miss—and often among the hardest areas to clean. Dyson is taking a new approach with the Dyson CameraJet™, combining a camera, AI-powered Gap Optical Targeting™, sonic technology and precision jetting to bring brushing and interdental cleaning together in one routine. It can identify gaps between teeth as you brush, then trigger a targeted burst of mouth rinse to help clean these often-overlooked spaces.

 

 

 

 

 

At the heart of CameraJet™ is Gap Optical Targeting™, powered by a 100,000-pixel macro-lens camera. The system analyzes 28 live images per second to identify gaps between teeth in real time. When a gap is detected, the toothbrush can trigger a precision jet within as little as 100 milliseconds, directing mouth rinse exactly where it is needed.

Behind the technology is an AI machine-learning system trained using 470,000 dental images collected during development, supported by 16 million lines of code. The result is a toothbrush designed not simply to brush, but to recognize where additional cleaning is needed as you go.

 

Dyson also rethinks the way fluid is delivered between teeth. The Conical Jet uses a broad, cone-shaped spray rather than the sharper needle-type jet found in many conventional water flossers. Dyson’s engineers spent years optimizing the jet profile to help sweep away plaque across a wider area. It is designed to operate at a lower pressure while providing broader coverage, with the aim of being gentler on gums and enamel.

 

The Anti-Gravity Tank keeps the mouth rinse flowing even when the toothbrush is tilted or held horizontally—particularly useful when cleaning the back of the teeth. Its compact 12.5ml tank delivers a controlled amount of mouth rinse during each session, incorporating interdental rinsing directly into the brushing routine.

 

The innovation continues with the Dual-Bristle Brush Head, which is contoured to follow the topography of the teeth rather than treating the surface as flat. Two types of bristles work together: slightly firmer inner bristles help lift surface stains, while softer outer bristles are designed to clean gently along the gumline. Dyson’s Variable Sonic Oscillation is engineered to keep the bristles moving across the tooth surface, helping maintain consistent cleaning action.

 

CameraJet™ also brings a digital layer to the everyday brushing routine. When connected to the MyDyson™ App, users can view their brushing in real time and receive guidance on technique and coverage. The app can also show where cleaning has taken place, helping users identify areas they may have missed. Instead of simply brushing for two minutes and hoping every area has been covered, CameraJet™ turns the process into a more visual and guided experience.

 

Dyson has also rethought what happens between brushing sessions. Its docking station is designed to charge the toothbrush, refill its mouth-rinse tank and store it upright, while the refill system can replenish the tank at the touch of a button.
