For Louis Vuitton, travel has always been about more than crossing borders. It is an invitation to discover the stories, rituals and emotions that give a destination its identity. Following the House’s recent Spirit of Travel campaign celebrating China’s remarkable landscapes and heritage, Louis Vuitton now invites another kind of journey—one experienced not through sight, but through scent.

For Louis Vuitton’s new Perfumes of the World: Journey to China collection, Master Perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud worked with his daughter and fellow perfumer, Camille Cavallier Belletrud, to create three fragrances inspired by rituals and moments deeply rooted in Chinese culture. Rather than relying on familiar visual symbols, the collection explores traditions that continue to shape everyday life. Reflecting on the collection, Cavallier Belletrud describes fragrance in China as an art form—one that nurtures both body and mind while carrying meaning beyond scent itself.

Tea becomes a quiet ritual of reflection. Ink speaks to centuries of calligraphy and painting, where every brushstroke carries intention and expression. The moon recalls the legend of the Four Great Beauties, reunion and poetry in Chinese culture. Together, these inspirations form an olfactory portrait that feels both timeless and contemporary.
What makes the collection particularly compelling is its restraint. Instead of reducing China to decorative motifs or predictable references, Louis Vuitton embraces cultural ideas that resonate on a deeper level. The result feels authentic rather than theatrical—a tribute to values and traditions instead of visual clichés.

That thoughtful approach extends to the presentation. Designed by Marc Newson, the bottles reinterpret the graceful form of the traditional Chinese snuff bottle, while their luminous opalescent finish draws inspiration from the artistry of Beijing glass. The result is a contemporary object that honours history without becoming nostalgic, echoing the same balance of craftsmanship and cultural appreciation found throughout the collection.
The fragrances also feel like a natural extension of Louis Vuitton’s enduring Spirit of Travel philosophy. If travel allows us to experience a destination through its landscapes and people, fragrance offers another pathway—through memory, touch and emotion. Long after a journey ends, a familiar scent has the remarkable ability to transport us back.

With Perfumes of the World: Journey to China, Louis Vuitton reminds us that the most meaningful journeys are not always measured in kilometres. Sometimes, they unfold quietly through the senses, leaving behind memories that linger long after the destination fades from view.
