Mane game: five haircare products I’m in love with right now

by Elva Ni

According to an informal survey, 70% of the male subjects surveyed said that one of the first things they notice about the opposite sex is their hair. Damaged hair and unkempt styling is definitely a turn off! To tame your manes, you need the right products and the know-how. Here are five of my favourite hair care products.

1. Regenerating Hair Care Mask – Hair rituel by Sisley

200ml | $120

I use this fair mask in lieu of a conditioner when I want my hair to be extra smooth, shiny and soft. The texture of this mask is really light and creamy. Just apply from the ends towards the roots. I usually give myself a scalp massage at the same time — this mask will make your scalp feel clean and refreshed.

2. Christophe Robin Cleansing Volumizing Paste (250ml)

250ml | $70

Your scalp needs regular exfoliation to get rid of the dead skin, grease and pollution that builds up over time. Just apply this Rassoul clay and rose extracts hair mask in a circular motion on wet scalp and massage for two to three minutes before rinsing off with water. It deep cleanses and removes debris and chemical buildup, moisturizes your hair strands, and also volumizes — great for those who like a fuller look. I tend to use it once a week in lieu of shampoo. Just be sure to rinse thoroughly.

3. Apivita Nourish & Repair Shampoo & Conditioner with Olive & Honey

Shampoo, 250ml | $44 ; Conditioner, 150ml | $46.39

Apivita is one of my favourite organic and natural brands, but I used to feel that hair conditioners from organic brands are frequently not rich enough for me. That’s not the case with this brand. With 90% all-natural ingedients, the shampoo and coniditioner is mild yet hydrating, and it is dermatologically tested to be non-irritating for sensitive scalps. Furthermore, it repairs damaged hair by forming a protective shield, making it look shiny and radiant. This is best for those with frizzy hair who want a smoother look, as well as those with damaged hair.

4. Shiseido Professional Sublimic Airy Flow Shampoo & Treatment, Unruly Hair

This shampoo and treatment duo from the Airy Flow series by Shiseido Professional compensates the lack of atmospheric humidity to give hair more fullness, and chemically processed hair a new life. You will fall in love with its floral scent and the silky bounciness it gives your hair.

Score: 4/5

5. Aveda Nutri Plenish Shampoo & Conditoner – Light Moisture

Shampoo, 250ml | $47 ; Conditioner, 250ml | $50

Aveda boasts more than 95% natural ingredients in their products, and their packaging is 100% recyclable. Moreover, this hair care series is 100% vegan as well, The shampoo has a creamy texture that resembles a typical conditioner, and it smoothes your hair immediately. The light moisture is hydrating enough for me, but if you have dryer/coarser hair, you can try the dark pink version which offers even more nourishing results.
