To call Michael Jackson a monumental figure in pop music is no exaggeration. Over the years, countless artistic works have drawn inspiration from his life and legacy. MJ the Musical is one of the most acclaimed among them. Since its Broadway premiere in February 2022, it has captivated audiences with its electrifying performances, unforgettable choreography and emotionally rich storytelling.

From November 25 to 30, the show will light up the stage of Vancouver’s Queen Elizabeth Theatre, paying tribute to the King of Pop.

Rather than presenting a traditional cradle-to-grave biography, MJ the Musical is set during rehearsals for Jackson’s 1992 Dangerous World Tour. Through flashbacks, personal memories and the creative process behind his music, the show explores the life of the global superstar.

Audiences are taken on a journey through his early years with The Jackson 5, his rise to solo stardom, his complicated relationship with fame, his relentless pursuit of perfection and his internal struggles.

No musical about Michael Jackson would be complete without his iconic hits. MJ the Musical features more than 25 of his greatest songs, including Billie Jean, Beat It, Thriller, Man in the Mirror, Bad, and Smooth Criminal. Each song is seamlessly woven into the storyline, not only advancing the narrative but also highlighting Jackson’s groundbreaking contributions to pop, R&B and dance music.

One of the most celebrated elements of the production is its faithful re-creation of Jackson’s legendary dance moves—most notably the moonwalk and his signature anti-gravity lean. The transformation of the lead actor into Michael Jackson, from vocal tone to physicality, is astonishing. More than just imitation, the performance becomes a profound embodiment of the artist’s spirit.

MJ the Musical became one of Broadway’s best-selling shows and received 10 Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical. It went on to win four—Best Leading Actor in a Musical, Best Choreography, Best Lighting Design and Best Sound Design. The original cast recording was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album.

For six days, this production will be a must-see for Vancouverites and city visitors alike—whether you’re a lifelong Michael Jackson fan or discovering his genius for the first time. It’s a powerful reminder of why he remains one of the most influential figures in the history of entertainment.
