Clase Azul: A Tribute To Aromas

by Iris

Clase Azul México, the Mexican luxury house known for its exquisite spirits and hospitality, has announced the release of Clase Azul Tequila Día de Muertos Edición Limitada Aromas. This limited-edition decanter is part of Nuestros Recuerdos, a five-year series curated by the brand. CCUE had experienced the unique and complex flavors of Clase Azul at Silent H.

Aromas, which will consist of 3,500 decanters, pays tribute to the unforgettable scents that characterize Día de Muertos, particularly the sweet essence of cempasúchil blossoms; a sharp, herbal fragrance central to this celebration’s longstanding beliefs and traditions. The installment is available at Clase Azul Boutique La Terraza and Clase Azul Boutique Los Cabos Airport in San José del Cabo.

For the añejo tequila of this limited edition, Master Distiller Viridiana Tinoco orchestrated a unique 25-month aging process which started in American whiskey casks and finished in Armagnac casks. Regarding this special aging process, the Master Distiller said the following: “For this release I selected casks which had previously contained Armagnac, a spirit with controlled designation of origin and the oldest in France. These casks’ unique character results from their provenance, Bas-Armagnac, where grapes grown in siliceous-clay soil end up imparting fine and complex fruit notes to the spirit. I opted for this kind of cask because Armagnac is a product that aligns with the values of Clase Azul México; its small-scale production reflects the history and heritage of the region where it’s produced and ensures the transmission of ancestral knowledge and traditions.”

The tequila that results from this unique process features aromatic notes of peach, pear, raisin, candied walnut, toasted wood and clove; as well as tasting notes of peach, walnut, clove and cacao with a long and sumptuous finish of cacao and cinnamon.

The decanter created for this limited edition also features the cempasúchil blossom. A beautiful marigold glaze covers the decanter, darkening in color as it reaches the base. On the back of the piece, a dreamlike illustration by Mexican artist Jimena Estíbaliz depicts a harvest of cempasúchil flowers of miraculous proportions; masked women and men collect flowers from the ground and enthusiastically extend their arms to catch them as they fall from the sky. They are accompanied by two dark-colored canines, xoloitzcuintles, faithful companions of souls on their way to the beyond.

The finishing touch on the decanter is an ornament bathed in 24-karat gold with a fine patina finish, completely made by hand by Mexican artisans from the Milagros de Latón workshop over the course of two weeks.

Clase Azul Tequila Día de Muertos Edición Limitada Aromas is available in a 1-liter decanter, 40% ABV (80 proof), for 1,450 USD.
