Pierre Yovanovitch has collaborated with longtime friend, and legendary fashion designer, Christian Louboutin to create a series of limited and open edition chairs inspired by historical muses, mythology, and film. The Christian Louboutin X Pierre Yovanovitch collection incorporates the work of a selection of best-in-class, historic French artisans to meticulously craft each piece. There are nine limited edition works which are inspired by characters ranging from Queen Nefertari to Dita von Teese.

As a nod to Christian Louboutin’s renowned shoe collection, all of the works feature Louboutin’s iconic, red-soled heels as the feet of the chair. To craft these works, Louboutin and Yovanovitch commissioned a roster of world-class French artisans, including: Maisons Vermont, Lesage Interieurs and Atelier Montex embroidery; Atelier Jouffre and Hugo Delavelle for their furniture artisanry; upholstery work by MM7 (Minuit Moins 7); art foundry Solyfonte; goldsmith Alm Deco, leatherwork by Audrey Ludwig and fabric painter Christophe Martin.

The collection offers nine one-of-a-kind works:
Dita
Inspired by model/performer, and friend of Christian Louboutin, Dita von Teese. The chair reflects Dita’s iconic burlesque costume with an embroidered and laser engraved Upholstery.
Josefina

Inspired by one of the greatest cabaret heroines from the 20’s, and a great actress too, Josefina is made of dark mahogany-stained oak and a special laser engraved and embroidered seat with leather fringe.
Syrena
Meant to evoke a mermaid delicately entangled in nets, Syrena features embroidered blue marine fabric and chair legs covered with fishnet.
Nefertari

Named after Queen Nefertari, wife of Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses II, this piece features an embroidered and laser engraved upholstery seat inspired by the ancient Queen’s headdress. The richly embellished pattern is reminiscent of papyrus and stylized lotus flowers. The wood is made of patinated oak and features golden bronze heels at the foot of the chair.
Zenobie

Hailed as one of the great leaders of her time, Queen Zenobia turned the Palmyrene Empire of Syria into a rich cultural hub, attracting many artists and philosophers to the region. As a result, Queen Zenobia became a muse for painters and writers for centuries to come. Drawing inspiration from her image the chair features a band of turquoise stones around each leg.
Radicalla

Named after an expression Yovanovitch often uses to describe a rigid architectural approach, Radicalla is made up of a Natural Oak base and sculptured wood feet combined with silkscreened upholstery. The heel, extremely sharp like a blade, adorns the back of the feet.
Morphea
Combining a patinated oak base and painted canvas upholstery, this chair incorporates a “changing sky” pattern meant to reflect the Greek mythological God of Sleep and dreams. Morphea features gold-painted feet which fade into the blond wood base.
Metropolissa
With a leather seat and bleached oak frame, the chair is inspired by Fritz Lang’s 1920s Sci-fi film, “Metropolis,” a futuristic vision made up of metallic colors.
Pompadour
The Pompadour features gilded metal heels reminiscent of French Crescent dressers from the 1750’s but also from some details of Tutankhamun funerary furniture. The upholstery features a screen printed motif with embroidery by the historic Maison Vermont.

The new collection is now on view to the public at Pierre Yovanovitch Mobilier New York until May 24th and is available for purchase globally via pierreyovanovitch.com.
