Fogo Island Inn, the award-winning, iconic property off the northeast coast of Newfoundland, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. To celebrate, the Inn is bringing a piece of the island to Toronto this spring through a first-of-its-kind pop-up in partnership with Fogo Island Workshops, Fogo Island Fish and The Lobby by Heaps Estrin. The space will offer Torontonians the opportunity to experience and shop the unique furniture and textile creations that celebrate place-based design in a contemporary fashion.

Like Fogo Island Inn, Fogo Island Workshops is a social business under the Shorefast charity whose work is focused on community development to build economic and cultural resilience on Fogo Island. The approach taken by Fogo Island Workshops is to partner local makers with international designers to create design-conscious and joyful pieces that nod to the centuries-old heritage. Its practices uphold regenerative making that involves ethical sourcing, educational integration, and skill building, as well as community engagement in the development of furniture, textiles, and accessories. All surpluses are re-invested into community development through Shorefast.
Open to the public till May 9th, Fogo Island Workshops’ takeover of The Lobby’s ground floor will showcase a curated selection of furniture, accessories, quilting, and knits. The public is invited to drop by The Lobby on Mondays through Wednesdays from 10 am – 6 pm, Thursdays and Fridays from 10 am – 7 pm, Saturdays from 10 am – 6 pm, and Sundays from 11 am – 5 pm to experience and shop select Fogo Island Workshops pieces that carry the past while fortifying the Island’s future.
