Inspired by this captivating transition, Guerlain unveils L’Heure Bleue Eau de Parfum, a new fragrance for women that transforms the beauty of this ephemeral moment into scent. An ozonic accord opens with a cool breath of freshness, followed by a luminous heart of iris and orange blossom. Vanilla and Ambroxan add warmth, depth and a sensual skin-like finish, creating a fragrance that is delicate yet enveloping, powdery yet airy—capturing the poetry of a moment suspended between day and night.
Iris has long held a special place in the House’s olfactory heritage, forming part of the iconic Guerlinade. For L’Heure Bleue, Guerlain Perfumer Delphine Jelk sought to reinvent the centuries-old technique of tincture—macerating a natural ingredient in alcohol to extract its scent—to reveal a fresher, more ethereal expression of iris.
Creating this distinctive ingredient was a three-year journey. Jelk searched for exceptional iris rhizomes, eventually finding the desired quality in Italy, a renowned source of this precious perfumery ingredient sometimes referred to as “blue gold.” Together with Guerlain’s manufacturing team at the Orphin plant, she developed the precise process needed to transform the dried rhizomes into an iris tincture with exceptional olfactory qualities. The result brings a new dimension to the fragrance: the richness of iris butter is complemented by the lighter, airier character of the exclusive tincture, giving L’Heure Bleue its distinctive sense of elegance and transparency.
L’Heure Bleue’s bottle reimagines Guerlain’s legendary “inverted heart” design, originally created in 1912 for Jacques Guerlain’s composition. Its blue lacquered gradient captures the shifting colours of the sky during the blue hour, moving through subtle shades that suggest the transition from day to night. Golden lettering dances across the bottle, while refined edges, a bevelled base and a textured blue ring around the neck give the flacon the presence of a precious jewel. Designed to be refilled and cherished over time, it brings together heritage, craftsmanship and modern sensibility in a single object.
