Hosted within the Cultural Hub at Mason Studio — the firm’s new hybrid studio, acting as an experimentation and gallery space, an incubator for like-minded creatives, and a hub for inventive thinking — the ‘Nourish’ exhibit brings people together to design a better future, creates inspiring experiences that empower people and communities.
Presented by Mason Studio as part of DesignTO 2024, Nourish : Connecting Through Dumplings, drawing upon the diversity within Mason Studio, and the vibrancy of Toronto, the exhibition orbited around a dish present across various cultures: the dumpling. Throughout the Festival Week, three unique cooking demonstrations took place at a communal table designed by Mason Studio’s team, offering a space to sit, eat and connect with others. These multisensory learning sessions combined in-depth discussions with culinary leaders and the chefs at hand, with an opportunity to make and taste the dumpling prepared. Guests had a chance to explore the dumpling’s impact and history.

From the Polish pierogi to the Chinese wonton, the guests got to explore how various celebrated Toronto chefs and restaurateurs prepare dumplings that reflect their heritage. Each restaurant shared some of their cherished dumpling recipes for the guests to try at home. The goal of the exhibit is to activate the sense of community, belonging and understanding, and to explore the incredible power of food and design to connect people and communities.
