Story | Connie Li Photography | David Yurman
David Yurman’s signature cable motif began with a bracelet he created for his wife, Sybil. Inspired by the bronze rods he used for his welded sculptures, Yurman twisted individual strands of metal into a helix and embellished the end caps with coloured gemstones.

Today, cable shapes Yurman’s every design, creative movement, texture and depth. “There’s nothing I don’t like about cable,” says Yurman. “I feel totally at home and embraced by the form. I know what it can do and what I can do with it. The future is wherever it takes me.”

After almost 40 years, cable remains at the heart of his designs. The latest Cable Edge collection, launched in April, is based not on multiple wires, but on one forged, rectangular shape that is torqued. It echoes the early metal pieces created by Yurman’s son, Evan, who took over as company president last year. During his time apprenticing as a blacksmith, Evan twisted an iron bar to create Cable’s most graphic form.

Offered for both men and women, these designs are crafted from recycled sterling silver or yellow gold, with hand-set diamonds carefully plotted to amplify Cable Edge’s fluting.
