Toronto Based Anne Sportun creates Modern Classic Jewellery

Have you noticed that in the recent years, the fashion accessory industry has been playing the mix-and match game? By putting a little thought put into jewellery pairing, you can flaunt your imagination, creativity and unique personality without being too over-the-top.

And if you go for local artisan designs, it is even easier to put together a truly unique look. One such designer is Anne Sportun, a Toronto jewellery maker for 35 years.

The Toronto-born artist began making jewellery as a teenager. Deferring her archeological studies to enroll in a jewellery arts program, she acquired her formal goldsmithing skills. She then founded her brand with the opening of her first atelier in the late 1980s.

This summer, Sportun has worked with her daughter, co-owner and custom design specialist, Haley Woodbury, to create their first collaborative jewellery line: the Diamond Disc collection.

This collection is a refined evolution of Sportun’s Hammered Disc series, now featuring a subtler hammered texture adorned with a delicate spray of diamonds. Designed for effortless layering, these pieces are perfect for everyday wear.

The mother and daughter believe in the finest materials and traditional techniques showcased in their designs: sumptuous gemstones, high-quality diamonds and hand-applied textures. They oversee every detail, from sketch and prototype to the finished piece.

Reflecting on their collaboration, Woodbury says: “Creating the Diamond Disc collection was a wonderful collaboration between my mom and me, sparked by her original hammered disc coin earrings. We were inspired by the light, almost discreet texture of those earrings and decided to expand on it.

“Together, we envisioned larger concave coins that would amplify thtexture. To add a touch of elegance and sparkle, we integrated a delicate spray of diamonds reminiscent of a starry night sky.

“The process was truly a joint effort. We sat down together, sketching out our different ideas and discussing how to blend them together. It was a creative journey, combining our favourite elements into a cohesive collection that reflects both of our styles and visions.”

In addition to the Diamond Disc collection, Anne Sportun fine jewellery designs include earrings, rings and bracelets with signature collections, such as the recently launched Archive, Boulder, Cage, Celestial, Disc, Stardust and Wrap collections that offer a wide assortment of styles for special occasions to everyday wear. It stays true to the designers’ motto: “Precious, everyday, for a lifetime.”
