Dr. Martens x Rick Owens: One Of A Kind

by Iris

Dr. Martens is reuniting with legendary designer Rick Owens on a truly one-of-a-kind collaboration merging Owen’s iconic architectural silhouettes with Dr. Martens’ structured, utilitarian boots. The collection transforms the iconic 1460 boot and towering statement 1918 18-eyelet boot through Owens’ energetic non-conformity and grunge influence.

The choice to have performance artist, Ron Athey as the face of the collab, speaks volumes to its unique ability to encapsulate binary-defying wardrobes and attitudes. Renowned for his extremist performative artistry which took place during the AIDS crisis, Owens notes Ron’s performances happened during a time of immense despair, expressed through physical demonstrations of rage. “His work speaks to eternal primitive in all of us and to our shared human experiences,” says Rick Owens.

Rick Owens’ meteoric rise in the 90s coincided with a grunge renaissance for Dr. Martens: a decade defined by deconstructed, binary-defying wardrobes and attitudes. And this spirit of energetic non-conformity drives the latest collaboration. Stacked on the 2” Quad Retro sole with an exaggerated, oversized tongue and heavy side zips. The upper of the towering 1918 18-eye boot is constructed using striking platinum Hair-On leather. The boot is fitted with pearl laces, with eyelets and hook trims in a dull silver finish.
