Silk’n, a global leader in medical aesthetics technology for home-use, is bringing innovative technology to at-home oral hygiene. First unveiled at the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, ToothWave is the first and only toothbrush that uses Radio Frequency (RF) energy and reduces tartar (calculus), gingivitis, stains and improves discolouration.
ToothWave utilizes DentalRF® technology, a mild Radiofrequency wave of charged molecules that surrounds the surface of each tooth, providing effective oral hygiene that will not damage the enamel or gums. These charged molecules loosen the bonds between the surface of the tooth and the tartar and stains, allowing for easy removal.
ToothWave’s RF energy streams between two electrodes, bouncing back and forth over a silicon barrier, eliminating the need for vigorous brushing. RF energy has been used in surgical and aesthetic medical applications for several decades. DentalRF® Technology is patent protected in the US, China, Europe, Japan, and Russia and is pending in several other countries including Canada.
ToothWave is the first and only toothbrush clinically proven to reduce existing tartar. “Tartar is inevitable,” says Dr. Yair Lenga, a Toronto-based Periodontist. “Plaque mineralizes in nooks and crannies. ToothWave is clinically proven to reach these hard to access areas.”

eliteGen: Is ToothWave suitable for kids? Any suggested age limits? Starting to use as early as better?
Dr. Lenga: The ToothWave is not recommended for children under 18 years of age, simply because there have not yet been clinical studies conducted for this age group. However, the technology used in the ToothWave is used in other medical and dental procedures that children receive.
The earlier you start using the ToothWave, the better. The device has a built-in timer, helping users learn best practices for oral hygiene. The ToothWave vibrates after 30 seconds, notifying the user to switch to a different quadrant of the mouth. After all, four quadrants are attended to, the ToothWave shuts off after the recommended 2-minute brushing time. Relying on a manual toothbrush typically leads to users completing only a fraction of the two-minute suggested time. Therefore, introducing the ToothWave as early as possible is helpful in building good habits. The earlier you can prevent the accumulation of plaque and tartar, the better.
eliteGen: In order to get the best result, any suggested kind of toothpaste to go with?
Dr. Lenga: Based on clinical studies, any commercially available toothpaste is suitable to use with ToothWave. I will recommend a toothpaste that has a generous amount of fluoride in it, and to brush for a total of two minutes, for optimal results.
eliteGen: Some dentists suggest using round head brush, what’s the strength as the one of ToothWave?
Dr. Lenga: The key to a good toothbrush head is access. Getting behind the last molars of the mouth is a challenge for access, which is why a round head is often recommended. The ToothWave is unique as it utilizes DentalRF® technology, to target these hard-to-reach areas. DentalRF® technology sends a mild radio frequency wave of charged molecules that surrounds the surface of each tooth, providing effective oral hygiene that will not damage the enamel or gums. These charged molecules loosen the bonds between the surface of the tooth and the tartar and stains, allowing for easy removal.
