For Canon, the undeniably handy eye-controlled autofocus function in the latest EOS R3 pro is a breakthrough. By eyeballing through the viewfinder, users can lock the focal point in a blink, and voila! Shoot for perfection.
The core of the EOS R3 features a Canon-designed and manufactured 24.1 megapixel back-illuminated stacked CMOS sensor, the first of its kind. When combined with the DIGIC X processor, it delivers a high-speed readout that allows for continuous blackout-free shooting at up to 30 fps in electronic (silent) shutter mode and up to 12 fps in mechanical shutter—with minimum rolling electronic shutter distortion.

Professional grade frame, weighing 1,015g.
Technically, the eyeball-controlled autofocus function uses eight infrared LEDs in the viewfinder to detect the corneal reflection and pupil images of the user’s eyeball, with a 7,560-pixel line-of-sight sensor for detection in order to locate the focal point. You can change the focal point right away while looking directly at the object, which greatly improves shooting speed and accuracy.

On the side, there are mic/output interfaces.
In addition to eye-controlled autofocus, other focus functions have also been enhanced, including more accurate human eyes, official eye recognition AF. Furthermore, eye detection will not be affected by shadows, hairstyles, makeup or masks. Even athletes wearing goggles or face masks can now be detected and tracked.
Even better, recognition focus now features a vehicle identification function, which subdivides into “overall” and “focus” options. “Overall” detects high-speed racing cars, while “focus” mainly detects driver headshots—ideal for autosport photographers.

The layout on the back is relatively similar. It is easy to get started.
In terms of video specifications, R3 is capable of shooting 6K 60p RAW and 4K 120p 10-bit uncropped video with Canon Log 3 support, in addition to the possibility for oversampled 4K DCI or UHD options, as well as RAW movie internal recording to produce an outstanding slow-motion effect.
