The Hacker Project

This Hacker Project has nothing to do with the dark web. Rather, it’s a Gucci/Balenciaga collaboration that adapts each other’s signature designs and reimagines them as their own.

Two collections were launched simultaneously last November as Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele blatantly merged the two brands’ logos into one, hitting the G-spot of fashionistas. His Balenciaga counterpart, Demna Gvasalia, subtly switched the GG on several Gucci iconic monogram bags to BB.

Duffle bag, $3,150 Mini bag, $1,450 Belt, $670 Sunglasses, $590 Jacket, $2,250 Trousers, $1,450 Shoulder zip bag, $1,450 Laptop pouch, $1,150 Cap, $650 Runner trainers, $1,450

Michele is into vintage, while Gvasalia is more futuristic. However, the clothes they design are surprising similar in concept and technique. With the BB monogram, the collection includes handbags, accessories, baseball caps, shoulder bags, belts, clutches and tote bags.

Certain designs sport “THIS IS NOT A GUCCI BAG” graffito on the monogram canvas, a nod to the classic “This is Not a Pipe” painting by surrealist artist Rene Magritte.

At the Balenciaga 2022 Spring/Summer show, The Hacker Project only had handbags and accessories on show. However, when the collection made it to stores, two padded jackets sporting the BB monogram were unveiled. One is a classic long-sleeve, mandarincollared down jacket; the other a hoody with a collar into which the hood can be folded. Both come in black and khaki.

Hacker Cocoon puffer gilet, $3,250.

This is a highly sought after collection that proves the fashion power of 1+1 is greater than 2.
