Now open at the historic Casa Loma, the immersive exhibition “Powering Progress: Toronto’s Electric Revolution” invites visitors on an electrifying journey through more than a century of innovation, ambition, and transformation. Presented by Liberty Entertainment Group and sponsored by Toronto Hydro, the exhibition runs in the Carriage Room until August 24, 2025, and is included with general admission to Casa Loma. Join the story of power, people, and progress this summer. Let history spark your curiosity.

Housed within the castle’s Carriage Room, this dynamic exhibit sheds light on the electrification of Toronto through the visionary legacy of Sir Henry Pellatt, the man who brought the power of Niagara Falls to the city. Discover how he helped illuminate Toronto’s streets as president of the Toronto Electric Light Company, helping make it the second city in Canada to join the electric revolution.

From flickering street lamps to the hum of modern life, Powering Progress reveals how hydroelectricity reshaped Toronto’s homes, industries, and everyday experiences. Through rare archival photos, historic electric artifacts, and immersive storytelling, the exhibit captures the city’s shift from gaslights to gridlines — and the social inequities that came with it.

Long before sustainability became a global priority, hydroelectricity helped keep Toronto’s skies clear and fueled early conservation efforts. The exhibition explores how hydro power laid the groundwork for the city’s clean energy future, and how Toronto Hydro continues to innovate in the face of climate challenges — from wartime conservation to present-day green initiatives.
